MHE Equipment guide

Material handling equipment refers to machinery used to move materials from one place to another. There are two types of MHE – manual and automated that are available in almost all industries. Warehouses make use of material handling equipment for various purposes. They do the work of loading, unloading, and moving the goods within the factories, on the premises, or in warehouses. There are four types of material handling equipment’s viz; storage and handling equipment, bulk material, engineered systems, and industrial trucks.

  1. Bulk handling material equipment: -As the name suggests, it is for handling large containers or cylinders. Bucket and grain elevators, conveyor belts, stackers, reclaimers are examples of bulk handling material equipment.
  2. Engineered systems: – Robotic delivery systems, AGVs, are automated systems assisting in moving materials around the warehouses.
  3. Industrial trucks: – They are operated both manually as well as automatically too. Walkie stackers, hand trucks, platform trucks, Forklifts, pallet trucks, side loaders, order pickers are industrial trucks used to carry heavy loads.
  4. Storage and handling equipment:- They are shelves or racks in a vertical arrangement to save space and store more goods easily.

Numerous benefits come with the usage of MHE:-

  • Though the investment in purchasing such equipment is higher, the overall cost reduces in the long run. The budget and manpower resources are controlled with higher efficiency in delivering the products. There are robotic systems that assist in consolidating loads and planning.
  • When products are moved manually, there are chances the products might damage in the movement or due to improper handling. Forklifts are mostly used for transferring heavy materials to avoid costly materials to drop or break.
  • Customers feel satisfied when the products are delivered faster and on time. Even workers feel safe and secured when technologically advanced material handling equipment is used.
  • It increases efficiency thereby contributing to more productivity.
  • The stackable frames are useful in storing materials at a higher level resulting in more space on the production floor.
